Ghilli is a 2004 Tamil-language sports action film directed by Dharani and produced by A. M. Rathnam. It stars Vijay, Trisha, and Prakash Raj in the lead roles. The film is a remake of the Telugu film Okkadu (2003), written and directed by Gunasekhar, with few changes made to the story.


The film is about a Kabaddi player, who goes to Madurai to participate in an exhibition match, but instead rescues a woman from a gang leader, who wants to marry her.

Storyline:

Velu, an aspiring kabaddi player, goes to Madurai to participate in a regional match, where he rescues Dhanalakshmi from Muthupandi, a powerful man keen on marrying the girl against her will. Muthu Pandi, a village strongman, decides to marry Dhanalakshmi, and begins his quest by eliminating everyone who opposes their union - starting with both her brothers. In desperation, Dhanalakshmi decides to escape from the village, and in the process is unwittingly assisted by a university Kabaddi player Velu.   

Response:

Ghilli was a critical and commercial success. It was praised for its action sequences, Vijay's performance, and the music. The film was also a major commercial success, grossing over ₹50 crore at the box office. It was the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year 2004.

Ghilli has gained a cult following over the years and is considered one of the best Tamil action films of the 2000s. It is also one of the most popular films of Vijay's career.
